Rybec Technical Information - Questions & Answers

Tile and Grout Cleaning

How does Rybec achieve superior results?
By using very hot water/steam under pressure, we are able to get down into the grout and pores of the tiles to effectively and safely remove the build-up of dirt and grime.  We don't need to rely on brushes or scrubbing pads.
Why is Rybec's process far better than cleaning tiles with a scrubbing brush and mop?
When you use a scrubbing brush, the dirty solution generated will immediately begin to soak back into the grout and using a mop will only push some dirt back into the pores of the tiles and grout.  The Rybec process ensures that the dirty solution is extracted into a waste tank in our van the moment it is rinsed from your floor, leaving no time for it to soak back into tiles and grout.
Will the cleaning process affect the glazing on my tiles?
Not at all. While we spray a mild cleaning solution on your tiles and grout first, we utilise the cleaning power of very hot water/steam. Therefore we do not use any harsh chemicals.
Will the cleaning process damage the grout?
No. If your grout is in sound condition then our cleaning process will not effect it. By utilising very hot water/steam we do not require high pressure to clean.
How long does it take to dry?
Your floor is left no wetter than if you had mopped it.
If very hot water is crucial in Rybec's cleaning process, who supplies the hot water?
At Rybec our vans are fitted with the very latest technology utilising kerosene burners for us to generate our own heat, so the customer does not bear this cost.

Tile and Grout Sealing
Why should I have my Tiles or Grout sealed?
Any unglazed tile, as well as grout, is porous and will therefore stain.  A sealer will prevent any spillages from penetrating into the tile or grout giving you more time to clean up any spills, making cleaning a breeze.  All sealers are designed to provide stain resistance, no sealer can provide complete stain proofing.
What will the sealer protect against?
A good quality sealer will protect against water and oil based stains as well as general soiling.
Will the sealer change the colour of my Tiles or Grout?
No.  While on some tiles and grout there may be a very slight change, most of our sealers are natural penetrating sealers and therefore do not alter the appearance of the tile or grout, unless a high gloss coating sealer is specified for slate or terracotta.
Do we have different sealers to choose from?
Yes.  Depending on what we are sealing and our clients requirements.  There are sealers specific for grout, others for dense tiles such as porcelain and others for the very porous tiles such as terracotta.  There are high and low gloss coating sealers where slate and terracotta are inside.  We will help you choose the best sealer for your situation.
Is sealing expensive?
Not at all.  When you consider at the long term benefits you will save money as your tiles and grout will stay cleaner for longer, be easier to clean and you will will save by not being frustrated at keeping your tiles and grout clean.
How long will the sealer last?
This will vary with different situations, but as a general rule a coating sealer will last up to 3 years, a grout sealer up to 5 years and penetrating sealers from 5 years to 15 years for the premium sealer.
Will my floors have to be professionally cleaned and sealed again?
Yes they will.  Sealing will make your tiles and grout much easier to clean and maintain but will not stop your tiles and grout eventually getting dirty.  The frequency of professional cleaning will vary depending on factors such as traffic levels and routine cleaning.

Carpet Cleaning

Should I have my carpet dry or steam cleaned?
It can come down to personal preference, but Rybec's dry cleaning method is solvent free unlike many others, has much quicker drying times than steam cleaning and is great for lightly soiled carpet and carpet that is regularly cleaned.  On the other hand if your carpet is heavily soiled then steam cleaning may be a better option.  After an inspection of your carpet we can advise the best method for you.
How often should I have my carpets cleaned?
Most carpet manufactures recommend having your carpets professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months.
How long will it take to dry?
Drying times depend on the carpet cleaning method employed. You can typically expect your carpets to be dry in 30 minutes to 4 hours. Drying times will vary depending on weather conditions, air flow, and density of the carpet. We can reduce drying times by the use of air movers to increase air flow over the carpet.
Why do some carpet cleaners advertise much cheaper prices than Rybec Cleaning Solutions?
Simple, a lot of carpet cleaners rely on the old "Bait and Switch" and "Splash and Dash" methods.  These operators are interested in $$$ turnover alone, and getting out of your premises as soon as possible, leaving your carpets soaking wet for days and not caring if they ever see you again.  The "Bait and Switch" method relies on them getting a foot in the door at a very cheap price. Then 9 times out of 10 you pay a much higher price than originally advertised, often paying extra for carpet protection or spots and marks that can be easily removed in the cleaning process.  Please note: If you are after a cheap and nasty job then don't call us. If you are after professional cleaning services providing the highest possible standards, call Rybec Cleaning Solutions today - you won't be disappointed.
If I have my carpet cleaned once, won't it need cleaning all the time?
Not true. Unfortunately too many carpet cleaners do not follow proper procedures. The main reason for your carpet resoiling rather quickly is residue from the pre-spray is left on your carpet. You may find this with some dry cleaning as there is no rinsing process or from cleaners who mix their pre-spray in with their rinsing water, so as the carpet dries the sticky residue is left on your carpet. Rybec's
DELUXE and EXECUTIVE cleaning methods use clean hot water for the rinsing process.

Last time I had my carpets cleaned the marks came back within a week. Why?
There are two common reasons for this occurring:
Firstly, whilst the pre-spray dissolved the stain, the rinsing process was not adequate to remove the stain and residue from the carpet therefore the stain works back up to the surface.  Secondly, with some dry cleaning only the surface of the carpet is cleaned, so while it appears the stain has been removed immediately after cleaning the stain is still at the base of the fibre and works back up to the surface.

Does Rybec offer free deodorising and sanitising?
Don't be fooled by companies offering free deodorising and sanitising.  At Rybec this happens naturally on every job. Our pre-sprays contain nature's own fragrances and sanitising starts occurring at temperatures over 68°C. With Rybec's
DELUXE and EXECUTIVE steam cleaning our temperatures can be up to 110°C, so every job is sanitised.
